Michael C often won singing competitions in high school and college. In 2020, he was discovered to be a singer-songwriter under Sony Music's OUR Works. The first Taiwanese Mandarin single "Yu Gong" has attracted much attention among newcomers. Xincheng ranked third on the "Best Local List" and fifth on the Hong Kong and Taiwan "Chinese Songs Dragon and Tiger List". The Mandarin singles "Between the Frequency" and "Black Dog Silence (feat. CY Leo)" which were released later also entered major pop charts.
