Loud, brash and generating an energy that seems pertinent to our current times, COACH PARTY is a band that feels sweet in its effects, and deliciously not-sweet in sound. . Celebrating their latest single, "Nurse Depression," and fresh off their excellent album Caramel, we’ve been trying to chase down this ‘best band in the world’ for some time now and luckily finally got our digital pigeons in order. We dug into their latest releases, goals and gains and much more here: 

OnesToWatch: How is Coach Party doing?

Coach Party: Fresh home from tour, back to jobs, having colds, enjoying our own cooking but also hating having to cook; it's the stuff of dreams.

Are we here for the sweets? What is Caramel all about? 

Caramel means something different depending on the context (song); it's sickly, sweet, regrettable, celebratory, addiction, habitual. It's up to the listener.

Biggest difference between this album and KILLJOY?

We put a lot of pressure on ourselves with the first album; there was a sense of "don't go & fuck this up, now." So maybe we were a bit more careful & reserved during the whole process. With Caramel, however, we felt a lot more free & comfortable to say & do whatever felt right at the time, and from the feedback we've had so far it seems like that has translated as a more raw & honest piece of work, which is what we strive for.

Any collaborators? Who produced the album? 

Our drummer Guy produced the album - we've always worked like that and it makes sense for us. The album does feature the first ever non-band member on a Coach Party recording, by way of our friend Tim Parkin (The Bees) on trumpet (Disco Dream). That was a fun session. We also have Izzy from Black Honey taking a verse on the single version of Disco Dream. As with KILLJOY, the record was mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer. He's mixed some of my all time favorite albums including Weezer's White Album and We Are Scientists' Huffy. It was mastered at AIR Studios by John Webber, who has mastered our stuff forever.

If it all goes to plan, what happens now? 

If it all goes to plan, you can catch us on a very lovely holiday after our big tour in Feb and March... maybe somewhere like Barbados, I know Stephs always wanted to go to Lisbon. After our lovely holiday, we'll be making sure the next album is released! 

Best moment while making the album? 

The best times are the ones where a song comes together rapidly in the rehearsal room with all four of us throwing ideas about. Georgina, Disco Dream, Control - we had a lot of fun writing those songs.

Besides this excellent album what else should we be on the lookout for? 

We do our own Coach Party / Caramel coffee beans now. They're available at our shows, and we're working on getting them online. They're so tasty; roasted by our friends & local roastery 'Island Roasted'.

Whats inspiring you right now outside of music? 

People are inspiring, it's incredibly to indulge yourself in other artforms. I've been very consistent in watching people online make pottery, so much so, I booked my own pottery lesson here on the Isle of Wight! I should mention, this is Jess now!

Band meal to celebrate, what is it / who is making it? 

I would make a poutine, its incredible. Joe - fajitas, Steph - bolognese, and Guy would probably do a roast or flatbreads. Drink choices would be, Red Wine, irn bru, White Wine and Guinness.

Musically who is new but making all the right moves? Who are your current OnesToWatch? 

Hunnybuzz, Highdrive, Rocket, KC Blackwater
