Lollapalooza 2022: 9 Acts Not to Miss

With Lollapalooza 2022 only moments upon us, there's still plenty of last-minute preparation to be done. What rushed outfit best says I didn't put this together in five minutes? Where are we pregaming? Wait, who are we even seeing? While we can't help with your first two problems outside of telling you orange juice makes for a great universal mixer that is high in Vitamin C, we can let you in on some artists we will not be missing as they take center stage at Grant Park this year. These are nine undercard acts you will not want to miss at Lollapalooza 2022.

Coco & Clair Clair

Coco & Clair Clair may just be Gen Z’s answer to the underground subdued hits of Uffie. The Atlanta-based duo blends the ethereal glitter of bedroom pop with the easygoing swagger to create a vibe that is entirely their own. From their viral TikTok breakout hits to their lesser-known back catalog, it’s all catchy, confident, and undeniably Coco & Clair Clair.

Djo

When he’s not busy babysitting the teens of Hawkins, Stranger Things star Joe Keery is crafting dizzying pop that harkens back to the blissed-out trips of ‘70s rock, euphoric pop, and beyond. Currently working toward DECIDE, his sophomore effort set to release September 16, the singles that have preceded it have expanded the technicolor world first glimpsed in his debut album, Twenty Twenty. Simply put, there is nothing quite like Djo.

ericdoa

ericdoa may have found his start helping to bring hyperpop to the masses, but his true aim lies far beyond any passing genre or trend. The experimental pop artist creates with reckless abandon, dipping into pop maximalism on his major label debut project things with wings while chasing fleeting highs on the standout Euphoria track “sad4whattt.” ericdoa is chasing what’s next and if you’re not paying close attention, you’ll be left in the dust.

binki

Existing at the crossroads of forward-thinking pop, blasé funk, and the infectious strut of rock is none other than binki. Born to Kenyan immigrants, binki carved out his musical identity through the record collections of his older siblings and a healthy diet of David Bowie, Siouxise and the Banshees, Lou Reed, and more. The result is Motor Mouth, his debut EP and a collection of “anti-love” songs that pave the way for a new kind of rock star.

Wet Leg

Formed atop the summit of a Ferris wheel in their native Isle of Wight, Rhian Teasdeale and Hester Chambers created Wet Leg over a shared love of French disco, The Ronnettes, and Björk. Thus enter their debut single, “Chaise Lounge,” an effortlessly witty, innuendo-laced indie rock explosion that put the band on the map. And following the release of their critically-acclaimed self-itled debut EP, it’s certainly looking like it’s Wet Leg’s time to shine.

redveil

18-year-old rapper and producer redveil may be just coming of age, but his music feels like anything but. With the lyrical acuity of a seasoned veteran and a natural ear for production, the Prince George’s County rapper comes to life on his latest project, learn 2 swim. redveil is only getting started and it’s only a matter of time before he’s taking center stage.

GAYLE

Chances are you’ve already heard GAYLE’s monumental breakout hit “abcdefu.” The single arrived as not just a career-defining moment for the 17-year-old, Nashville-based artist but a veritable, scream-along anthem for the world at large. And with the release of her debut EP, a study of the human experience volume one, the GAYLE has proved herself as a star whose rise is only just beginning.

underscores

underscores first made their mark back in 2015 during the heyday of SoundCloud, and ever since that pivotal moment, they’ve only continued to expand and evolve their sound. The ultimate goal is to turn people off, then win them back,” they tell Genius. It’s this sentiment that informs their brash, unapologetic sound and their debut album fishmonger, which deftly blends hyperpop, indie rock, emo, bedroom pop, and ambient music.

Audrey Nuna

It’s only a matter of time until rising R&B artist and rapper Audrey Nuna becomes a name that needs no introduction. 2021 saw the release of her debut body of work, a liquid breakfast, a 10-song project that saw the first-generation Korean-American exploring the full extent of her artistry. With critical acclaim flowing in and a steadily growing fanbase, there’s no better time to become a stan.
