Sofi de la Torre's Relationship Changes With the City Lights in "Pero No" Video [PREMIERE]

All of Ones to Watch's regular readers will know that we are huge fans of Spanish-language music. From Rosalàa to Ambar Lucid, we can't get enough. With the release of Spanish pop queen Sofi de la Torre's latest music video for her single "Pero No," tenemos otra cantante para agregar a la lista (we have another singer to add to the list, for all our English speaking fans out there).

"Pero No," de la Torre's second release of 2019, is an earnest, sultry club anthem. Over an impenetrable expanse of deep synth and a driving, passionate drumbeat, the Spanish artist lets loose verse after verse of her glassy vocals to create a pop-meets-chillwave anthem that will have you dancing into the early hours of the morning. The singer's latest release follows a chain of singles that have been coming out over the two years following her debut album, Another. Not Me. I'm Done.

The video accompanying the single perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the song. Against a backdrop of New York City at twilight, de la Torre, dressed in a white tracksuit and matching sneakers, dances into the night by herself while lamenting the unequal relationship between herself and her lover. The image of the city shifting between twilight, nighttime, and early morning is a clever allegory for the tenuous nature of the singer's situation - just like the hours of the day, some moments in the relationship are brighter than others, and de la Torre is struggling to make peace with that reality as she dances across lonely skyline.

As you're getting ready to hit the club this Friday night, prepare properly with an exclusive first look at the video for "Pero No" here:
