France-based sibling duo, Parallelle, has offered a delightfully off-kilter music video on a silver platter. Accompanying the song “Dreaming Through the Phone” off their latest album 11th Avenue, the video combines the whimsy of Wes Anderson with the color story of a 70s postcard, shot amongst the cliffside views of Lisbon. The signature electronic yet earnest sounds of Parallelle are perfectly actualized in this short story of riches, butlers, and telephones on platters, simultaneously intermingled with cliffside arrests, thieving bellhops, and well-timed dance breaks.
Fashioning a cinematic world for the immediately catchy analog track, brothers Thomas and Julien de Bie expand the meaning of “Dreaming Through the Phone.” The telephone filtered vocals morph from a textural choice to a storytelling detail as we watch the lead character in the video pleading through the phone, traveling great lengths in search of the voice on the other end.
