BEL Reflects on Modern Dating in New Single “Amor”

Modern dating is impossible. It’s full of endless swiping left and right on dating apps, going on a date and being talked at rather than having an actual conversation, and perhaps the spookiest thing of all, ghosting. Sometimes it feels easier to just return to a former lover to feel a flicker of emotion that you know will quickly fizzle out. Singer-songwriter BEL explores the complexities of desire and modern dating in her latest bilingual single “Amor.”

BEL knows how to write an honest and relatable lyric and does just that in “Amor.” Right off the bat, BEL makes it crystal clear how she’s feeling, as she sings “Sometimes I wish that I was still with you / But I don’t think that’s actually true / I just miss not feeling blue / I miss having someone who knew.” The instrumentation swells in the chorus as BEL’s lonely heart battles with her logical mind. In the chorus, BEL also takes a moment to honor her Argentinian roots, something she’s done before on “Nos Despedimos”. She flips effortlessly between English and Spanish as she sings “Quiero amor / I’ve just been so bored / Tengo dolor / En mi corazon.” Not only is the Spanglish an opportunity for BEL to celebrate her culture, it highlights a standard she has for her future partner.

“It's always been important to me to find a romantic partner who also speaks Spanish, so I wrote [Amor] in Spanglish,” shared BEL. “It’s about a type of loneliness and boredom with bad dates where you consider reaching out to old flames just to feel something—even though you know it won’t turn into anything.”

“Amor” is the latest single off of BEL’s debut album, Holy Grail, set for release on October 17th.
