BENEE’s Remembers to Stay Sweet on New Single “Cinnamon,” Announces Upcoming Sophomore Album

Today, alt-pop singer songwriter BENEE returns with her latest single “Cinnamon,” the first single off her newly announced, highly anticipated sophomore album Ur An Angel I’m Just Particles.

Speaking on the song BENNE shared, “I wrote ‘Cinnamon’ with my friend Ryan Raines, who is an incredible producer. We made it about a year ago, and I have loved the song from the start. I’m so stoked to be sharing it with the world, it means a lot to me. I wrote it about moving to LA and feeling a little bit lost in the chaos, like everything was falling apart. It felt like nothing was working. The chorus is quite ethereal and a nice let go for me. I thought, ‘Well even if everything around me has turned to shit, I’m going to stay sweet, still be kind, and attract the right kind of people.’ I got my friend Sora to play the cello in the bridge, which I LOVE. I cry sometimes when I listen to that part. And it’s such a fun song to perform live!”

The chaos of BENEE’s move to LA is reflected in the song’s instrumentation. The verses feature a staccato, persistent drum beat, and a groovy bass rhythm. Layered background vocals add depth to the instrumentation. The chaos of the verses is juxtaposed by the chorus where BENEE’s vocals are able to shine, as they are accompanied by a more mellow instrumentation. BENEE’s determination to stay sweet through it all is reflected in the lyrics of the chorus as she sings “I might not laugh again / I’ll cross my fingers till the end / And I’ll stay sweet like cinnamon / I’ll stay asleep till 3pm.” In the chorus BENEE takes a moment to showcase the higher end of her range as she sings in a gentle falsetto, as sweet as the cinnamon she sings about.

Alongside the single’s release, BENEE shared some details about her upcoming album saying, “I’ve been working on this for about three years now, and I’m so happy to finally be releasing my second album! I worked so hard on this and had a really clear story for the album. Over time, it really started to make sense, and I’m so proud of it—it means the world to me!”
