Chiiild Will Surely Bring You "Back To Life" With Their Psychedelic Soul Righteousness
As proven by Emotional Oranges, slenderbodies, and THEY., it seems as if a certain indie music company just can't stop spoiling us with the brightest of today's emerging talent. A recent signee of Avant Garden, Chiiild has dedicated years to crafting genre-bending tunes that'd categorize neatly into psychedelic soul otherwise. Before they unleash their debut project, Synthetic Soul, this fall, Chiiild is graciously treating us to a flawless new single, "Back To Life."
On "Back To Life," Chiiild shared,
"This song is a metaphor, a fantasy that life is just practice and somehow in the future, we can get a second shot at this."
With liberating string arrangements and dual vocals, "Back To Life" isn't your average psychedelic soul jam. This dreamy track features the magnificent vocals of Shungudzo, who is a Zimbabwean artist, songwriter, poet, and activist. It's quite understandable that Chiiild draws inspiration from a vast range of artists such as D'Angelo, Tame Impala, and Pink Floyd because of their ability to incorporate countless soundscapes in just under four minutes. Lyrically, "Back To Life" suggests that we're merely experiencing a trial run of life with another opportunity to do it all over again.
Shungudzo expanded,
"Chiiild and I wrote 'Back To Life' on the day we met. We really bonded over being African artists who want to use music to tell stories about diversity, ask questions about humanity, and unify people over shared personal experiences. All of these themes are embedded in the lyrics of our song, and Chiiild's music really compliments it, being so uniquely genre-bending yet still somehow reminiscent of something you've heard, or felt, before."
