Georell Magno Shines On Debut Folk-Rock EP 'The Color After The Spark"

Brooklyn-based indie artist Georell Magno steps into his own light with his debut EP, The Color After The Spark. After spending years as an active session and touring drummer, most recently drumming for hyperpop artist underscores’ headline tour and 2025 Coachella set, Magno’s journey of self-discovery as a solo artist is on full display across five incredible tracks. Exploring his daydreams, heartbreaks, and personal growth, the rising star shows that he is exactly that: a star whose light is finally shining through.
Speaking to the production of the project, Magno shared, “I tried to challenge myself to make whatever was in my head and try to be self-sufficient in that way. It was a passion project–and a personal achievement, for sure.”
The record opens with “Inside A Dream,” which blends the sunny sonics of 70s singer-songwriter styling with the wistful indie rock of the 90s. Over the timeless folk-rock instrumentation and playful percussion, Magno croons, “Push and pull, in and out/ Up and down and all the way around…This ride rides high, higher than I’ve known.“ He pours his heart out to someone who isn’t his girl, singing sweet nothings and imagining a world where she perhaps was.
The following track, “Spinning,” not only features collaborations from fellow producer Wyatt Bernard but also mellow background vocals from indie-pop darling and OTW alum Juliet Ivy. Gentle acoustic guitar riffs weave throughout verses that paint a picture of blossoming love on a summer day, creating a sonic experience that is simply invigorating.
Other standout tracks include the joyful “Better Days” and the impactful “Twist Away.” The former track is a twangy ode to following your instincts and becoming the person you want to be. Meanwhile, the latter is a reflective effort adorned with airy vocal harmonies and vulnerable lyrics. He details a major point of heartbreak, singing, “No, I know I didn’t finish taking out the blade/ was only a couple days, but I went anyway/ then you reached out your hand/ the same one that held my face/ and went straight for the handle and twisted away.
The EP ends with “for G,” which serves as a letter that Magno has written for himself with care. Led with understated percussion and guitar riffs, the finale is a testament to his skill and his dreams. Poignant and encouraging verses remind him what he loves most about songwriting and inspires listeners that they too should go after their dreams with the same level of care.
