Following the release of her first album in 2020, Mikaela Mullaney Straus, better known by her stage name, King Princess, has declared her continued reign over a new indie-pop era. King Princess has released her newest single "For My Friends," a brutally honest yet equally refreshing account of the growing pains that come with a longtime love.

Taken from her forthcoming sophomore album, Hold On Baby, out later this year, the singer-songwriter offers an alternative perspective to the fairytale love story that is portrayed on the silver screen, instead exploring the beauty of platonic love. King Princess isn't afraid to boldly proclaim that love isn't always a glamorous journey and that it is filled with euphoric highs and life-defining lows. She admits that even when "We’ve had every fight / There is no score to keep / Chased down every sidewalk," at the end of the day they are still "Walking home with me / Talkin' bout honesty."

As the chorus builds, the instrumentals reverberate to match her intense and earnest vocals. At the climax of the song, she sings out "It’s a waste of time / To pretend I’d find someone out there / I wouldn’t scare / ‘Cause loving me takes patience," revealing that they are in this for the long haul.

King Princess leaves the listener with the conclusion that despite the struggle, she knows that "[they] wouldn't leave [her] now." "For My Friends" signals a new chapter for the enviable artist, one that is both rife with vulnerability and the dreamy pop production that is so loved by her fans.
