Sydney’s Rising Musician Lola Scott is Blending Neo-Pop Charm with Grunge-Rock Grit

Hailing from the bustling city of Sydney, artist Lola Scott has captured the hearts of music enthusiasts with her witty lyricisms and gritty guitar hooks. With a sound that effortlessly blends the infectious energy of pop, punk-rock and 90s grunge, this up and coming musician has carved out a spot within Australia’s neo-pop scene. Under her belt sits opportunities supporting Holly Humberstone and Men I Trust, but there’s more to Lola than we know.

When speaking to Ones To Watch, Lola reveals the origin of her name, which is all telling of the nature of her music. “My great aunt Lola was telling me her high school sweetheart’s name was Scott, so I put her name together with her high school sweetheart because I feel like it's just a message to everyone to follow their heart.”

Like the story suggests, Lola’s music is very honest and heartfelt, with many of her compositions following the sentiments of relationships both personal and observed. Her music is comparable to Avril Lavigne’s age of self-expression and rebellion combined with Beabadoobee’s dreamy guitar rifts and nostalgic songwriting. It’s a combination that is undeniably hers to keep.

Emotional and captivating to say the least, her music is therapy for the youth. Whether it’s a bad ex or life blocks, Lola’s music is an outlet for others to seek support. “I'm hoping that people can listen to my songs or realise that they deserve more than what they are getting, or realise other ways to express their emotions. It also lets me step outside and see a perspective into my own life.”

Introduced to music from the age of six, Lola has had her fair share of influences and evolution throughout the years. Her major inspirations being Blur and Gorillaz are felt through her new music scheduled to come out. Her latest single “High School Drama” plays heavy on the grunge scene, with distorted riffs, aggressive drumming and overall edginess that is pleasantly roaring.

Driven by growth, she’s determined to make her sound unforgettable through speakers and even more through her live shows by constantly seeking to push the limits of her musical prowess. Lola is creating an atmosphere that attracts listeners by experimenting with different instrumentations. From pushing the boundaries of genres to incorporating more analogue synths and guitars, her arrangements make those listening shout for more.

Humble and down-to-earth, she’s forever tuning her craft by collaborating with others like herself - never forgetting that there’s always something to learn. “Something that I’ve taken overall from every session is, don't shut down an idea until you follow it the whole way. Think about how you could add to it that could be potentially better.”

In a musical landscape shaped by diverse influences and evolving genres, Lola Scott emerges as a dynamic force, seamlessly weaving her personal experiences and inspirations into her sound. As she continues to explore new sonic territories and collaborate with like-minded artists, Lola remains grounded in her pursuit of musical growth and authenticity, a testament to her unwavering dedication to her craft.
