Oscar Welsh Captures the Melancholy of These  "Weird Times"

Amidst all of this global uncertainty, British bedroom pop artist Oscar Welsh details his perspective on these events through the somber track "Weird Times." Partnered with Human Re-Sources, Welsh is relatively new to the indie rock scene, with "Weird Times" being only his second release on streaming services. Although having a succinct discography, the depth and emotion behind these two tracks make him seem like an artist that has been around for far longer.

His debut single, "Get Yourself to Sleep," acts as a perfect introduction. The track is warm and optimistic with Welsh comforting his love interest over a lo-fi guitar driven instrumental. What sets this track apart from the saturated bedroom pop landscape is the smooth and soothing qualities of Welsh's vocals as well as his ability to write memorable hooks and melodies. This track is a relaxing feel-good anthem that leaves listeners wanting more material from the young artist.

Welsh's sophomore release, "Weird Times," further builds on his sound, while also including lyrical content pertinent to modern times. Paired with an equally somber and nostalgic music video, the track comforts listeners about the circumstances of the world around them.

Welsh uses the inability to see someone he cares about as an overarching metaphor about the uncertainty and anxiety of these times. This is a fitting track to listen to while being forced to stay inside but will also continue to live on and be enjoyed for years to come. It is a testament to Welsh's ability to capture a specific moment in time while remaining timeless.

Both of Welsh's tracks are the strong beginnings to a long-lasting career of warm and emotive pop music. His songwriting ability matched with his reassuring tone make the artist a clear standout amongst peers.
