Peach Tree Rascals Try to Find Their Way Through a Terrible Day in "Things Won't Go My Way"

“Life is a comedy to those who think and a tragedy to those who feel." This famed quote originating from an 18th-century writer provokes a thought still very relevant in the 21st century, "How seriously do we take ourselves?" Here to shed a bit of optimistic light on a grey situation is the breezy, indie collective Peach Tree Rascals  with  their first release of the decade, "Things Won't Go My Way."

Leaning on the alternative side of their soundscape, "Things Won't Go My Way" incorporates post-punk vocals and euphoric jam band instrumentation. Choppy rhythms in the drums and a gritty guitar line induce involuntary head bops and a happy-go-lucky tap of the foot, a sonic to physical reminder to relinquish ego and find the humor in the hardship.  In their own words,

"This song is special to us because it reminds us of something that's often difficult to put into words. We always try to justify that there's a particular thing preventing us from doing something, but at the end of the day - it always comes down to the fact that it's a mindset and you're often preventing yourself from getting where you want to be. We think everyone has a moment where they experience self-doubt, or like they're not able to perform their best. When we wrote this song, we thought a lot about how there are people, or how your own mind will try to drag you down and make you feel like you're not good enough. In the end, we're all just trying our best and it's about acknowledging that, knowing that we've all been there and felt that and that you can turn that feeling into something positive."

Accompanied by an equally light-hearted visual companion, the authentic fun the group had when shooting the video, in spite of the series of unfortunate events, is plain to see. Inspired by The Truman Show, the band plays with perspective via a fish-eyed lens, staying consistent with their previously established aesthetic. "Things Won't Go My Way" serves as encouragement to laugh a little more and cry a little less in the face of adversity.
