Everyone wants to be somebody else, and that someone else probably wants to be somebody else, too, but have we ever considered that maybe we are that person for someone? Last week, Tate McRae released her single, "she's all i wanna be," a sadly relatable confession in the guise of a pop stunner.

As a girl who has fallen victim to multiple situationships, "she's all i wanna be" eloquently expresses the insecurities that come with being told the words 'don't worry about her.' It carries a similar energy to Conan Gray's "Heather" or Olivia Rodrigo's "Jealousy," where you cannot help but compare yourself to other people, wishing you had their small waist, their long hair, or trendy style, solely for the attention of a "stupid boy." With lyrics like "If you say, 'she's nothing to worry about' / then why'd you close your eyes when you said it out loud?" and "She's got everything that I don't have, she's all I wanna be so bad," Tate has yet again proven her abilities as an empathic songwriter.

Despite its melancholic subject matter, "she's all i wanna be" is nothing short of a banger - headphones are not a recommendation, they are a requirement. Its production is crisp, layering pop rock instrumentals over Tate's raw vocals. The sound calls back to early 2010s pop; it's the kind of song that makes you want to dance around your room in the middle of the night, jumping on your bed using a hairbrush as a microphone. Tate is taking a new direction with her artistry, and I am a-thousand-percent here for it.

At the end of the day, in the words of Tate, these boys ain't shit.
