Ahead of Debut EP, Samara Cyn Hops on a Horse For “Sinner” Visual


If I were to ask you who the most important artist to appear on a horse this year was, I think I could guess with moderate certainty who you’d say. I won’t say her name, but I would imagine your answer would be supported by claims of cultural omnipresence, musical versatility, and something having to do with cowboys and river dancing. Your answer would have been correct, of course, until this week, as now the number one spot has been usurped by none other than the Tennessee-born phenomenon Samara Cyn.

“Sinner” is the newest release from Samara, and arguably her most-anticipated following a string of high-quality tracks dropped during a year where she simply refuses to release her chokehold on culture. You might recognize the genre-warping iconoclast from her perfectly polished freestyles on Instagram to her OTR freestyles, her COLORS performance, her many celebrity co-signs, and the list goes on. No matter how you know of her, there’s no denying that Samara is a one-of-one talent who pushes cultural boundaries forward with every carefully crafted banger, and “Sinner” is no exception

Self-written and self-directed, alongside Boima Anderson, the video for “Sinner” pairs the track’s eerie and brooding instrumental with country-themed visuals and dextrous vocals that are just as clever as they are understated. Her writing is charismatic, hard-hitting, and instilled with Samara’s signature wit that you truly cannot get anywhere else. If “Sinner” is any indication of her debut EP out later this month, now might be the last time to claim your early fan badge before it’s gone forever.

If nothing else, “Sinner” is an important reminder that few artists, if any, are poised to be “next up” like Samara Cyn is, because even as she quickly amasses a devoted following of ravenous fans, her music consistently sounds like she’s put in her 10,000 hours and more. If you’re angry I said that she’s the most iconic artist to appear on a horse this year, I don’t care. I said what I said, and when Samara ends up in music’s upper echelon, I’ll accept an apology in writing.
