Isabel LaRosa Channels the Yearner in All of Us in “My Girl”

Yearners assemble, Isabel LaRosa returns to fans with her latest single, “My Girl,” an irresistible earworm released right on the heels of her debut album and short film Raven. In an age where huge artists love to keep their fans starved to create the illusion of scarcity, LaRosa stands alone by keeping her fans consistently happy and fed, and “My Girl” is no exception.

Though known for her signature atmospheric alt-pop style, which exists somewhere at the crossroads of meditative and explosive, “My Girl” sees LaRosa in a rare moment of captivating, understated vulnerability. Unlike fan favorite tracks like “older” or “eyes don’t lie,” “My Girl” adopts a much dreamier sound that feels delicate and melancholic while still being wrought with emotional tension at every corner.

“'My Girl' is about wanting someone you know you can’t have, but still not being able to let go of the ‘what if,'" Isabel shares. “It’s about being unafraid to love loudly even if there are consequences."

Though LaRosa is about to leave the country for a minute playing a slew of shows from the Netherlands to England, US fans (myself included) were lucky enough to catch her in Chicago at Lollapalooza this past weekend for one of the festival's standout sets. Though the time to be an early fan has long passed, Isabel LaRosa is an artist more than deserving of your eyes and ears, and if “My Girl” is any sort of indication of things to come, then we’re in for a treat.
