Shoka Sunflower Dances Through the Discomfort in “Two Step”

Johannesburg’s Shoka Sunflower returns with his latest single, “Two Step,” a smooth, soul-searching hip-hop track that taps into the emotional limbo we often find ourselves in when we’re not quite ready to face reality.

The track begins with swirling, otherworldly sounds before dropping into a move-inducing groove. Over a laid-back beat and mellow guitar textures, Shoka delivers low-key vocals that feel reminiscent of Glass Animals.

Shoka’s upcoming album FOR NOW KEEP DANCING, is a project that leans into the moments we tend to avoid, and “Two Step” demonstrates just that. It isn’t about fixing heartbreak or offering easy answers; it’s more about sitting in discomfort and acknowledging it. Collaborating with genre-bending producer Moo Latte, he manages to blur the lines between vulnerability and composure.

“Two Step” feels like a personal release, but also offers a safe space for anyone who’s ever danced their way through heartache. It’s a reminder to just keep on, keeping on.
