$NOT and A$AP Rocky Collide on "Doja" Cat-Inspired Visual

Though 2022 has been fairly light on hip-hop releases, things seem to be changing quickly thanks to Florida-via-NYC rapper $NOT. Ahead of the release of his third studio LP Ethereal, the rapidly rising star returns this week with "Doja," a song where he apparently adds Doja Cat to his list of romantic ~entanglements~. Joined by A$AP Rocky, I would be lying if I said this track wasn't a banger, but I honestly cannot help but harken back to the infamous Kanye West tweet: “In Jesus Name No More Cap.”

Over a booming bass signal, "Doja" is a hard-hitting hit written in praise of one of hip-hop's most celebrated icons. Between $NOT's hazy yet aggressive rapping and A$AP Rocky's tightly woven bars about guns and archive Raf Simons jackets, the accompanying chaotic visual mirrors the track's insatiable energy. Whether surrounded by their ensembles or draped in layers of streetwear, both rappers provide listeners with yet another reason to look forward to $NOT's next release. The video for "Doja" concludes with a truly ethereal mix, as a mural to Virgil Abloh becomes the video's focal point. A touching tribute with a message that reads loud and clear: "the culture lives on."

Though "Doja" is an undeniable banger from two of hip-hop's most innovative players, unfortunately Doja Cat's response to the video indicates that which we all expected - she is not romantically involved with our hero $NOT. In the wise words of novelist Ottessa Moshfegh, "Rejection...can be the only antidote to delusion," but in the meantime fans can both live in reality and look forward to the release of $NOT's Ethereal, set to release February 11.
