Refugee Rapper Star2 Finds Catharsis in 'Real Life'
Asian American singer, songwriter, and rapper Star2’s smooth, charismatic quality over gleaming, vibrant backdrops make for confident music that is entirely addictive. His new EP Real Life is gritty and raw, brimming with that same infectious fervor he has become known for. The bold in-your-face beats grab you instantly, hooking you right from outset. Star2's come-up story is not one that exists solely for the narrative but stems from deeply personal experiences. The radiant hip-hop and R&B talent was born into a refugee camp in Thailand. His people, the Ka-ren from Burma, have suffered genocide by the Burmese military and Myanmar government, which ultimately forced him to flee to the U.S. with his grandmother. Life growing up in San Diego though was not much easier though, as every day was a struggle to make ends meet. Yet, music was always a cathartic outlet for Star2 to transform his pain into something greater. Now. blowing up in the hip-hop world, Star2 is a reminder of the power of perseverance.
