The vanguard of internet hyperpop, quinn releases her self-titled project with the sole intention of self-liberation.
A true product of the internet age, everything about quinn is a war on the imprisonment of normality. From her transgender identity to her genre fluidity, she lives as a contrast. This project is her essence in sonic physicality and a true act of vulnerability that the public almost doesn’t deserve.
Becoming disillusioned with viral fame, quinn disappeared from the internet, wiping every trace of who she once was clean and removing much of the music that not only certified her a prodigy but also influenced many of the artists the genre knows today.
In truth, her devotion is to fun, to creation, to conquering her pain by trapping it in noise. There is nothing about quinn that aches to be famous or seen; in fact, she seems much more at ease in the shadows. quinn lives as a ghost because she is each and every one of us, and the more loudly she exclaims her truth, the deeper we melt into ours.
Whether it was a vulnerability hangover or the poison of expectation, it was the time she took away that birthed Drive-By Lullabies, and now, her sophomore project, which have both left her loyal audience in awe.
quinn is performance art, with every track embodying a different act. “American Freestyle” tells the raw truth of the Black American experience, while “Oh” peers through the cracks of all that’s forbidden, speaking on the exhaustion of suicidal tendencies.
The production is impeccable, the story flows seamlessly, but above all else, quinn is important. It’s self-righteous and aggressively brave. It speaks on truths no one else will dare to utter, from dysphoria, to mental health, to racial inequality. Whether she wants to be or not, quinn will be remembered, and it will be because of how many voices she set free the minute she liberated her own.
