The Moss Embraces The Importance of Self-Reflection with “Darkness"

Enthralling indie rock band The Moss shared their shining release “Darkness.” Juxtaposing the title, the upbeat piece portrays a sound that glows. The song surrounds itself with a bright, blooming sonic atmosphere that is highly infectious. The single is expressed as a repeating pattern of emotional push and pull, loving someone, yet needing solitude to gain clarity. So many of us know what it means to need space before we can truly open our hearts, which is why the piece strikes such a profound chord. These lyrics, “I promise that I gave the love that I was able of / I even let you in on things I’ve never told no one / I can no longer be the version you created of me / Maybe the clarity is knowing things are always changing,” poignantly drive that message home. These impactful words highlight the struggle of personal growth and the acceptance that change is constant.

Tyke James (vocals/guitar) and Addison Sharp (guitar) grew up as friends on the beaches of Oahu before relocating to the Great Salt Lake area. There, they connected with Willie Fowler (drums) and Caiden Jackson (bass), forming the group The Moss. Their fresh approach to raw indie rock is shaped by the sounds of Pinegrove and Kevin Morby. “Darkness” has that same warm, wistful air. The Moss’ tunes are layered with luminous and subtly uplifting melodies. “Darkness” is another standout release being both intimate and expansive. Experience the single’s intensity now.
