Ashe Watches the World Unfold Around Her in “Shower With My Clothes On”
I always say that heartbreak is the most beautiful, transformative kind of pain that one can experience, but knowing that thereâs a light at the end of the tunnel certainly does not make walking through it any easier. In each of her songs, Ashe encapsulates this conflicting conundrum in ways that are painfully relatable to anyone who has to mend a broken heart â whether it be seeing and accepting a toxic relationship for what it really was in âMoral of the Storyâ or choosing peace in âNot Mad Anymore.â Her latest single, âShower With My Clothes On,â is no exception to the matter.
âShower With My Clothes Onâ deals with the inner conflict of knowing someone isnât meant for you but not knowing how to fully let go of them. Despite all the hurt and pain theyâve caused you, you want nothing more than to be with them. A fuse of electro-pop and indie-folk creates a melancholic yet hopefully soundscape to accompany Ashe as she speaks from within. One of my favorite things about Asheâs artistry is her ability to connect words together like pieces of a puzzle, letting her wisdom and honesty shine through in each lyric and verse. In the chorus, Ashe sings, âI don't know how to feel, I think I could die / I've been missing you for so long, Listening to our song, In the shower with my clothes on.â
On the new track, Ashe shares, âShower With My Clothes Onâ is what my head feels like when itâs spinning; out of control anxiety and the world feeling like itâs closing in on you. Itâs about remembering those last few moments in a relationship when youâre hopelessly hanging on but know you have to let go.â
Accompanying the release of âShower With My Clothes Onâ is its official music video. In the visual, we see Ashe poised in a photobooth as friends and loved ones enter and exit, experiencing life while Ashe continues to exist as the world unfolds around her. Directed by Jason Lester, the video perfectly captures the idea of being there but not truly being there. Youâre existing, but youâre not really living.
Maybe itâs just because Iâm from California, but Asheâs music feels like California in all the best ways possible. Despite the subject matter of her music, her delivery is always timeless and beautiful, like a cotton candy sunset in the Joshua Tree desert or the tall redwood trees in San Francisco. Simply put, her voice sounds like home, and I could not be more excited for whatâs to come.
âShower With My Clothes Onâ will be featured on Asheâs forthcoming sophomore album Rae, slated for release this fall.
