Eva Rose's "Final Girl" is a Horror-Inspired Pop Slowburn

Perchance you are also a self-described very emotional Virgo, a wishful thinker, someone searching for truth and love. Perhaps then you have found an immediate sonic soulmate in Eva Rose: a serendipitously aware, astrologically-motivated, willful singer who can conjure up vivid songs as bright as the celestial stars. Rose is a Brooklyn-based artist who has released a small string of singles since 2021, all showing immediate depth, approachability, and cross-genre inclusiveness.

With a wonderfully dulcet vocal range, her music lends itself to soft then loud, sweet then sour arrangements that were a hallmark of her early idols, Avril Lavigne and Hayley Williams. Buoyed by an artistic family (her sister is a renowned ballet dancer) Rose took her poetry writing roots, spun them tighter to melody, and was pathing down the songwriter route when her desire to be an artist blossomed. The early horoscope readings suggest her multi-dimensional talents are much better suited to punching through the fourth wall and reading to the audience directly.

"Final Girl" is the latest single off her upcoming EP Everything You Wish For, a body of work that Rose sees as a “breakup EP.” Co-written, produced, and mixed by long-time collaborator FLORIO, who she credits with creating tactile texture to her lyrics, the song is also the most fictional, using a metaphorical construct atypical to most of her existing work. As Rose explains, “Typically every song I write is directly inspired by personal experiences, but with 'Final Girl' I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and tell a story from a fictional character’s point of view. Although morbid, it was incredibly fun to write and to play with common themes and hallmarks of horror movies. It’s fictional in content, but at its core this song is about what it feels like to find out the person you’re with isn’t who they claimed to be all along, and that can be pretty terrifying.”

The hope is this single, with its pulsing kick drum rhythm, crescendoing bridge, and scoring chorus is a harbinger of how Rose and her longtime collaborator continue to navigate her emerging sound. Whatever your sign, this week's horoscope says add "Final Girl" to your rotation, as it will certainly improve what lies ahead.
