While it’s far too easy to lose ourselves in the deluge of new music releases that grace us every week, one thing that cannot and should not be overlooked is the art of the music video. With the heyday era of MTV long behind us, Rewind sees us taking a look back at a handful of our favorite music videos of the past week.

lubalin - "Whose Love"

I'm sensing that lubalin's bottomless well of visuals will be perpetually on our list for best videos of the week, if not year. Often taking just a simple effect or in this case a one-shot, one-take approach, director JB Proulx took all the emotion of this loud then quiet song and made it resonate in stationary elegance. "whose love" is another must-watch from this promising artist.

Floyd Fuji - "BREADWINNER" 

Airy fun summer songs often have the moist cliche visual accompaniments, usually looking like a bad travel video instead of buttressing the heat and energy of the underlying track. That's not the case in Floyd Fuji's "BREADWINNER," where director Kyle Jetter took the tune and made it a relatable fish eye adventure, colored to give it the texture of summer, and lit it to have the sun always casting into our eyes. With Floyd literally delivering the bread, this skateboard-propelled video has us in the mood for more.

Luck - "DONT SWEAT"

The OTW team was lucky enough to have a first-row vantage point for how vibrant and dynamic Luck is as an artist and dancer at our Art Basel event last December; it was enough to make us sweat. In this gorgeously scenic and naturally backlit effort for her single "DONT SWEAT," Luck and her co-director and label CEO Justin Smith deliver a bout of choreography and storytelling that is self-evident, compelling, and theatrical all without leaving the song's structure behind. 

Poolblood - "twinkie"

Yes, the Super 8 that captured your grandparents' childhood in all its low frame rate glory is literally only an antique, but the instant nostalgia the faux film effects provide is still ever-useful, especially when creating the serene and sweetness of Poolblood’s latest effort, "twinkie," produced by OTW alumni and favorite Shamir. Directed by Emma Cosgrove, this flower-riddled, delicately shot effort is a perfect pairing to the beautiful fragility of the song.

Superjazzclub - "Cellular"

Ok, Superjazzclub's "Cellular" is a study in contrast: a beautiful restrained song with a hype bridge. Finding a perfect visual for this song lends itself to some wild ideas and the apparent result channels gritty French cinema through the lens of collective member and director Gloria Dennis. A story with haunting effect, but impossible not to grasp onto, I'm gonna suggest this is a group we’ll be madly in love with for some time, visuals especially.
