While it’s far too easy to lose ourselves in the deluge of new music releases that grace us every week, one thing that cannot and should not be overlooked is the art of the music video. With the heyday era of MTV long behind us, Rewind sees us taking a look back at a handful of our favorite music videos of the past week.

Laufey - "From The Start"

Chances are you’ve seen this retro lounge vibe video already, but on the off chance you haven’t, we insist you take a trip back into '60s art, furniture, low-resolution film, and beautiful art direction by Laufey’s own identical twin sister, Junia Lin. Directed by Jason Lester, every moment of "From The Start" is a film nostalgia win—the color palettes, set design, and the following camera-creating movement perfectly nuanced to the jazzy note of the composition. It's a generation-spanning beauty.

Alé Araya feat. greek - "Endless Sky"

Director Elise Schatz scored a huge win with the visuals for the longingly delicate song by Alé Araya, starting with an angst out of depth, rinser of the moment against an LED wall, then laying in so many gorgeous outdoor settings, tight face framing shots, and disorienting spiraling outward wide lens drifts, that it's almost impossible to imagine the editing process. But the story, held literally together with a flower, stays true to Araya’s gorgeous tune, billed as a shirt film and rightfully so.

B00sted - "Selfish"

While not intuitive to most, the scenic location for this Niall Proctor-directed visual was influenced by the movie Rambo: First Blood, which was originally shot about an hour east of Keegan Jaeckel aka B00sted’s hometown of Mission, BC. A tribute to the beauty of rural Canada, but also hinting at the isolation and rural decay that accompanied his upbringing, this video lets its host artist and the panoramic backdrop do most of the talking, aided by a mix of filters, mediums, and angles, it's a fun watch until its hard ending.

Bakar - "Right Here, Right Now (Live Session)" 

I get why some may object to a live video as a study of music synched visual excellence, but when done right, as it is here with live from the floor, the vibes of a live performance injected with excellent post-production editing, make this the best kind of video for a Bakar stan. Couple things to mention: love the inclusion of crew in the backdrop of the sound stage, reminds us of all the behind the scene work that goes into the craft and wow does Bakar emobdy a soulful persona.

Jack Vinoy feat. Jordan Xx - "Vagabond"

I’ll be honest, Im not sure exactly whats going on in this video (cloth cutouts, bubble wrap and bouncy castles but a taste) but I do know its a widely appropriate accompaniment to this richly delivered tune by newcomer Jack Vinoy, and bettered by the hazy lo-fi feature of Jordan Xx on both the track and visualizer. Co-directed by Jack and No USE, I’d let your id run wild and just get silly with it above.
