Yell6w Delivers a Bittersweet Anti Pop Stunner With "Memories"

A familiar feeling to those that have lost in the battle of love, South Florida’s Yell6w pleads for peace in his latest anti pop single “Memories.” A moody track drenched in heartbreak and angst, “Memories” explores the attachment to the ghost of a toxic lover; gone in the physicality, yet their aroma lingers on.

The visual, directed by Amanda Martinez, mirrors both how isolating and disorienting the experience can be. Yell6w is cornered in his room, surrounded by his own exhaustion and incessant replays of what once was. It’s a story Yell6w is suited to tell, because though his name denotes something upbeat, there’s a sadness threaded through his work. From growing up in poverty in Cuba to being placed on house arrest, he’s no stranger to strife. At age 18, Yell6w has seen more than many do in a lifetime, and it’s felt in the weight of his art.

This single precedes his upcoming EP, set to be released through Parklife Records, which will most likely further explore his entanglement with isolation and all the harsh beauty that can come of it.

Picking a wound before the scab has fully formed only delays the healing process, and yet, there’s something satisfying about it. Whether it’s picking a knee scrape or revisiting old scenes, “Memories” is a song that reminds us of a liberating truth: maybe you don’t actually miss them, you’re just addicted to feeling something.
