Yung Gravy Drops the Most Infectious Rick Roll With "Betty (Get Money)"
Yung Gravy is in his winning season, remaining undefeated with his latest banger “Betty (Get Money).”
The track is a play off of Rick Astley's “Never Gonna Give You Up,” the '80s hit that, beyond its meme fame, is pretty iconic. Rewiring the chorus as “Never gonna take no loss / Never gonna lose my sauce / All I know is chase this dough and get money,” Yung Gravy knows he’s expensive, but his arrogance is somehow always infectious.
While reimagining classics is a tactic that has saturated the market recently, Yung Gravy has a way of making “Never Gonna Give You Up” a brand new experience while maintaining Rick Astley’s essence. They both have a charm about them, making this incredibly rare sample clearance pretty seamless.
The accompanying video, complete with fake backdrops, turtlenecks, and a groovy two-step, only adds to the nostalgic experience, though one could argue that Yung Gravy’s hair pretty much always looks like that. Paired with Astley’s original synths, the sauce is immaculate.
Amidst the chaos of existing right now, we need rappers like Yung Gravy. While his commitment to satire is never at the expense of technical ability, he doesn’t exhaust us by trying to prove himself to us. He gifts the world art that is fun to consume, and with billions of streams, platinum plaques, sold-out tours, and Martha Stewart’s cosign, it’s clear he’s doing something right.
