No matter how hard you try, you can't force something that's not there. It's a sentiment that has spurred one too many break-ups and serves as the emotional foundation for hyperpop genre-shaper aldn's latest single, "sink."

For those unfamiliar with aldn, the 21-year-old producer and artist has long been a staple of the hyperpop scene for his impressive producing acumen, but it was not until he began laying down his own vocals to self-produced tracks that the Virginia native supplanted himself firmly in the spotlight. "sink" is the latest product of this shift into the limelight, and also doubles as the first look into his forthcoming EP, Good Grief, set to release this spring.

"'sink' is about wanting to fall in love with someone but no matter how hard I try, I just can't sink into love. This is the first single off my upcoming EP Good Grief and the production leans into a style I've been exploring such as using more live instruments," shares aldn. The marked shift towards live instrumentation smashes headfirst with the hyperpop wunderkind's penchant for experimental, bubbling production to create an intoxicating amalgamation of alternative influences and futuristic intent. Paired with the restrained angst of an aldn who can't find it within himself to give himself over to another, the result is a track you can't help but sink deeper and deeper into.

The new single also arrives alongside an eye-catching black and white music video that serves as a teaser for aldn's headlining live shows in Los Angeles and New York this spring. And while the video gives no indication that aldn is moving closer to sinking into love, it does look like 2022 is looking to be aldn's year.
