We’ve been keen on this budding born in Russia, raised in Italy artist whose fashion background is very evident in this visually stunning escalator-based effort for "VERTIGO." Taking an already stunning metro stop, director Salvatore Rocco color-matched Hēir and the extras into a gravity defying dance, choreographed by Valentina Schisa. The airy breath-laden song found a perfect frame in this gorgeous context, just another example of how scene selection can build a wildly impressive narrative.
FELIVAND - "Not My Way"
We’ve loved this Aussie singer for a while now. Her music and approach are smart and deliberate, nothing that is meant for quick consumption, and that stubborn creative drive is riddled within the Gabe Hanvey-directed video for "Not My Way". Quick checklist for us to appreciate going forward: 1) intimate friendship displayed through everyday happening, 2) bike rides, we love bike rides, and bonus if you find a merry-go-round as well.
Sofia Valdés - "Parking Lots"
Okay, having anything with Sofia Valdés in it is cheating a bit. She has that effortless kind of beauty that lights up the screen from almost any angle, but director Satchel Lee took the minimalist literalism of a moon tower-lit parking lot to show how lighting, contrast, and a cool car are all you need to make a wonderful story poetically visual. Suffice it to say, "Parking Lots" is well worth the watch.
Deaton Chris Anthony feat. BENEE - "Good Buy My Old Life"
Wow, this is a challenge to surmise as director Justice Vaught Ott (co-written by Deaton Chris Anthony as well) went full '80s camp to match the vibes of this playful song. Young love in bowling alley with an unanticipated hellish interface and a wonderful point of view shot from inside the crane game makes the video for "Good Buy My Old Life" a must-watch.
Sub Urban - "BANDIT"
Yes we get it, we have a crush on this artist, but how could you not after watching this BDSM cowboy western that elevates Sub Urban's typically kitschy fearlessness and creativity. All the best videos are a bit indescribable but director Brendan Vaughn made a proper film-level narrative in this video short for "Bandit," a standout track that appears on Sub Urban's recently released debut album HIVE. Watch away and join the bandwagon.
