What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? If you’re anything like me, the answer is that, unfortunately, I immediately check my phone to get ‘plugged back’ into the world. Being a member of Gen Z, it seems like almost everything—both good and bad—is documented and immediately available to see, and if you haven’t seen it, you could be missing out on something important (which is rarely the case). If you can relate at all, you’re going to love YUNGBLUD's "Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today," a summer rock anthem about enjoying the simple pleasures of life while rejecting the societal pressures we all fall victim to. Coming as a single release from the English singer as he gears up for his self-titled third album, set to release September 2, this head-banging song carries YUNGBLUD’s classic punk-rock-inspired sound while giving listeners a feel-good release from the stress of everyday life. 

The angsty, rebellious sound that has earned the UK artist a cultlike fanbase shines in this track about letting go of negativity and prioritizing what makes us feel good. As so many of us often do, YUNGBLUD questions what he can do about the problems he sees in the world, voicing his frustration with the people that are supposed to be making the world a better place. He belts, “‘Better pull mysеlf together / How long does it take to figure it out? / The politician ain't gonna help you / He's only gonna try and take your house,” highlighting the lack of action and accountability so many people recognize coming from those in power. While calling out these important issues, YUNGBLUD rejects the overwhelming stress that comes with everyday life while determined to hold onto every glimpse of positivity and happiness he can. 

"To me this song is what happiness feels like. Happiness with a bite. A defiant sort of happiness. Looking at yourself in the mirror and telling the sadness to fuck off and come back another day. I wanted this song to be a little part of someone’s day, no matter what they're going through they can put this on and feel a bit stronger today. That’s the vision, that’s the dream...,” shares YUNGBLUD.

The accompanying ‘Don’t Feel LIke Feeling Sad Today’ video was filmed with the help of local fans. On June 18, the artist tweeted out, "i am going to shoot a music video for the next song i am releasing. the song is an act of defiance against sadness and i don't think it would feel right if we weren't doing it together. come to southbank at 3:30pm. no age limit, no applications, come after school, come after work, bring signs, dress how you fuckin want." The resulting video is a living personification of the message behind the song, with a huge crowd of people partying, dancing, and enjoying every rapturous moment of what's unfurling before them. While the song is a standalone hit, the energy and community behind the music video will put a smile on your face and immediately distract you from the inescapable drudge of day-to-day life.
